The children of the Batwa tribe in South West Uganda are some of the world’s most impoverished and neglected youth. Through providing education, we can empower Batwa girls and boys to break the cycle of poverty and access new opportunities for self-
To offer sponsorship for one of our Rising Stars will be life changing for them. It costs between £32 and £37 per month. This is not much more than £1 a day, and most likely equates to your monthly wifi bill.
A primary focus of WADU is the education of all Batwa children within the communities they serve. We are reaching out to sponsors to financially assist some of the most promising students that WADU are already supporting.
Each Rising Star has a different story, but some of the common reasons for their falling out of education can be:
loss of one or both parents
living with a care giver who is elderly or chronically ill
affected by the AIDS epidemic
abuse
neglect
child labour
In Southwest Uganda, primary education is provided for by the government. However, there remain many barriers to children completing their primary education – such as difficulty of access, or cost of uniform, books, and meals. Secondary education is always fee-
Your sponsorship covers all costs for your student’s education, including a uniform and school resources. By sponsoring a Rising Star, you will enable them to attend a boarding school, which will provide a safe and stable atmosphere to learn and complete their education without losing contact with their family. The boarding environment provides not only an education, but also a bed, food and protection against the threat of child labour or early marriage.
Our WADU team will have oversight of the student you support, visiting them regularly, monitoring progress and communicating with school staff and families. You will create a meaningful friendship with the students you support, and you will have the opportunity for direct communication with them, understanding and seeing the difference you are making to their life via letters. The WADU team will also send regular reports, and school reports. Where possible your student will send letters, drawings about their daily lives and times in school through WADU.
How to sponsor a Rising Star
1. If you are interested in sponsoring a Rising Star, please contact our Sponsorship Secretary, Abigail Felce at: sponsorship.cduganda@gmail.com
2. Abigail will allocate you to a Rising Star student from the waiting list provided by WADU. You will be sent details about the child whose life you are going to change, including a photo and some information about their life.
3. Initiate a monthly standing order to your bank for £32 monthly. The details are:
